In 2017, Hmong New Year celebration in Xiengkhouang province, Laos, started their New Year celebration on November 18 and it last for more than week.
“The big different between Hmong New Year in Laos and America is that in America, the first day is the most important day for Hmong representatives and leaders to come and open the event. Big opening ceremony always held on the first in America. In Laos, the opening ceremony could be held in two or three days after the celebration started” said Richard Wanglue Vang, Executive Producer for Suab Hmong News.
Richard Wanglue Vang said if you are planning to go and be a part of the Hmong New Year celebration in Laos, plan to go to the one in Phongsavan. It has the most crowd follow by the one in Lak52, Noon Hai, and Luang Prabang. “I see the girls are lining up by themselves without someone guided them for ball tossing. This is is big different from America too” said Kangyee Vang, News Correspondent for Suab Hmong News.
All the Hmong New Year celebration in Laos last about a week. The most crowd was on the weekend.
