Announcement of the Presidential Candidates for the Hmong 18 Council of Wisconsin, Inc.

The 2015-19 Central Election Committee of the Hmong 18 Council of Wisconsin, Inc. is pleased to announce the candidates for the presidential position of the Hmong 18 Council of Wisconsin, Inc. which takes effect on January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2019.  The candidates are:

Wisconsin is home to approximately 50,000 Hmong and the Hmong 18 Council of Wisconsin, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 under chapter 181 of the Wisconsin Statutes to advocate and promote cultural programs of the Hmong in Wisconsin. The Hmong have unique cultural practices such as:  weddings, funerals, New Year celebrations, ceremonial rituals, etc. that requires community support to ensure uniformity and improvement, so the Hmong culture can be a part of the mainstream community and not separate from it.  Hmong society normally consists of 18 Clans and this organization is mostly represented by the 18 Clans of the Hmong here in Wisconsin. Each Clan is entitled to two representatives, one man and one woman elected by each of the 18 Clans.

The election for the Hmong 18 Council of Wisconsin, Inc.’s position is set for Saturday, November 8, 2014.  The polling stations will be located where there are sizeable Hmong populations.  The Hmong population is generally spread out around 11 cities: Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Appleton-Fox cities, Green Bay, Wausau, Stevens Point, Madison, La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Menomonie.
