Col. Toupao Lee was a keynote speaker at Wisconsin Hmong Labor Day in Oshkosh, WI


Oshkosh, WI — Thousands and thousands of Hmong participated first day of Wisconsin Hmong Labor Day in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on September 1, 2012.  Col. Toupao Lee was the keynote speaker at the event.

Col. Toupao Lee emphasized on getting Hmong younger generation to speak Hmong to keep Hmong culture and custom to the future.  He added that Hmong younger generation must remember and honor their perents who paved the way for them to come to the United States. “Thousand of Hmong died by helping the CIA…that’s why we are here today..” said Col. Toupao Lee.

First day of the event filled with speeches from Hmong organizations, Hmong dances competition first round, Hmong singing competition, and sports.

Chong Vang Xiong, Chair Event, said that next year he will plan to host a Miss Hmong pageant at the event. He added that other people critized his committee to run the event.  “Some other people said that we took over the event from General Vang Pao but we never take an event from any one…this is our event…” said Chong Vang Xiong.
