MANITOWOC COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) – The case against a man who was arrested for the 2016 murder of a Manitowoc man has been dismissed, according to online court records.

On May 8, the prosecution filed a motion to dismiss in the 1st Degree Intentional Homicide case of Quinn Orn Smith, 23. Court records say: “Further review indicates that there is insufficient evidence for the State to prove the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The court listing says the State consulted with law enforcement and the family of victim Kor Yang, and moved to dismiss the case.

On May 10, the case was dropped, but the State has the ability to reissue charges.

Smith was arrested in May of 2016, several months after the murder of 52-year-old Kor Yang at Kor’s home in Manitowoc.

On Feb. 5, 2016, Yang answered an early morning knock on his door in and was shot in the chest. He later died.

A detective testified that Quinn Smith’s DNA was found on the gun used in the crime.

Investigators did not determine who fired the gun in the killing of Kor Yang.
