A You Duo, one of Hmong female star in China

shr_news100016.jpgA You Duo, it becomes clear, has grown up around music. As a child, she woke to her mother's singing of sad songs in the morning. When she went to school, she learned pop songs and sang them back to her mother to cheer her up.

After she graduated from middle school, she stopped schooling and joined the ranks of so many young Chinese from the countryside who have left their villages to seek income elsewhere. She managed to get a job in Beijing where she learned some of her singing and dancing. She then spent several years moving around, following opportunities, mostly working as a waitress in a series of establishments in Guizhou and Shenzhen. Through this work, she met managers who were willing to let her sing in their restaurants for higher pay. She sent some of her earnings home, but saved the rest to buy costumes for performing and music to teach herself how to sing.

Click here to watch her MV.  This is one of my favorite of her song.
