Hundreds of people showed up Saturday to help dedicate Vang Pao Elementary School in Fresno.
The southeast Fresno campus, which opened Aug. 20, was named for Gen. Vang, a revered Hmong leader who died in January 2011.
Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin welcomed May Song Vang, who is the late Gen. Vang’s widow.
Traditional Hmong dancers perform during the dedication ceremony.
The school houses nearly 800 students.
The campus is the district’s first new school since Olmos and Williams elementary schools opened in 2007. Vang Pao school is at 4100 E. Heaton Ave.
