Laos is preventing COVID-19 by suspending tourist visas and closing schools

SUAB HMONG NEWS (03/21/2020) – Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith announced during a monthly cabinet meeting that Laos suspending visas for tourist for 30 days and closing all level of schools to prevent the Corona Virus or COVID-19 starting March 18, 2020.

Anyone who currently hold an entry visa need to get a health certificate from the proper authorities and report their movement history in the country to the proper official authority.

The prime minister said Lao people travelling from outbreak countries are required to impose self-isolation for 14 days.   All entertainment venues including karaoke and massage venues should be closed.  The Lao New Year starting in April is cancelled.

Thongloun warned Lao people to avoid travelling to foreign countries.  He advise overseas Lao people (who plan to come back to Laos) to suspend their travel plans until the outbreak is under control.

In Vientiane, four hospitals, namely Mittaphab Hospital, Mahosot Hospital, Setthethirath Hospital and 103 Hospital have been designated for the isolation.

In the provinces, suspected patients will be isolated at provincial hospitals.
