Pageant and Dance competition were the main attraction at 2013 Hmong American New Year

Milwaukee, WI — 2013 Hmong American New Year celebration held at Mall of America Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 3 to 4, 2012.

The three main attractions for the 2013 Hmong American New Year celebration were Miss Hmong American Pageant competition, Prince Charming competition, and Hmong dance competition.

Seven Miss Hmong competed in the 2013 Miss Hmong American Pageant and seven Hmong young men competed in the Prince Charming title. The winner for the 2013 Miss Hmong American went to Choua (Cua) Lee and Prince Charming title went to Kevin Xai Thao.

“We will award two airplane tickets for the two winner in the Pageant and Prince Charming competition to go to Laos to visit the poor villages to gain experience on poverty and the daily living environment so when they came back to the states, they could share to the younger generation…” said Wachu Vang, Chair for 2013 Hmong American New Year.

“There are four rounds for the Miss Hmong American Pageant and Prince Charming competition. Two for the first day and the other two rounds for the second days” said Nou Lee, Chair for Miss Hmong American Pageant and Prince Charming competition.

Hmong legendary musicians also a part of the 2013 Hmong American New Year celebration. Xa Lee, Hmong first musician, said that he was glad to see Hmong music expanded throughout the years. “Back then we had only one Hmong music band and now we have more… back then we had only one or two Hmong singers and now we have more than 500 Hmong singers… I am happy and proud…” said Xa Lee, Hmong first musician.
