APPLETON (WLUK) — An 18-year-old man has been charged Friday with stealing more than $2,000 from an Appleton bank.
According to the criminal complaint, Joshua Xiong, told police he robbed Huntington Bank because he will be graduating soon and the money would help his family with bills.
Police were called to the bank on E. Calumet Street around 4:44 p.m. Thursday.
An employee at the bank said the robber walked into the bank wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, dark-colored glasses, a baseball hat and a bandanna to cover his face. There were no other customers inside and other bank employees were working the drive-through window at the time.
The criminal complaint states Xiong slipped the bank employee a note demanding money and saying he had a gun.
The employee said no gun was shown but Xiong had his hand inside his pocket like there could have been one, the complaint says.
Once Xiong left the bank with money on a bicycle, the panic button was activated.
