SUAB HMONG NEWS (08/08/2017) – Chao Xiong (Co Xyooj) arrived in St. Paul, Minnesota from Laos in the middle of 1967. Xiong was the first Hmong to arrive in St. Paul, MN.

Xiong studied in the nursing field when she was twelve years old in Laos. After she completed her nursing training, she worked as a nurse to take care injured soldiers during the United States Secret War in many places in Laos.

“One day I was working with this Doctor and we both were doing surgery on one of the injured soldier and the Doctor asked if I would like to go to the United States to continue my education and without hesitation, I answered yes…” said Chao Xiong.

Xiong pursued her education in the United States starting 1967 and later married to a pilot who flew airplane during the United States Secret War in Laos.

Xiong now live in Alaska.
