SUAB HMONG NEWS — A few of Hmong individuals from Wisconsin and Minnesota gathered in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 4, 1977 to start to form the beginning of Hmong July 4th Event or Hmong Freedom Celebration which now is the biggest Hmong event in the United Stated during the summer time.

Blong Yang, a retired Counselor at Minnesota State College University, said he and other Hmong individuals started to form a gathering for Hmong in Minnesota in the summer of 1976 and the actual gathering happened on July 4, 1977 at Harriet Island Park located by the Mississippi River in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The original name of the gathering was “Plua Mov Tshav Puam Hmoob Thoj Nam Koom Txoos Sib So Kua Muag”.
