Thousands spectators attended 2018-19 Merced Hmong New Year

SUAB HMONG NEWS (12/25/2018) – Merced Hmong community held their New Year celebration from December 21 to 23, 2019 at Merced Fairground.

Many competitions held during the Merced Hmong New Year included Flag Football, Soccer, Volley ball, Top Spin, Miss Hmong Central Valley, and Dancing.

“I do not have the exact numbers but approximately more than 2000 spectators attended the event on Saturday” said Keith Vang, Chair Event.

Wachong Vang, one of General Vang Pao’s son, open the ceremony for the Merced Hmong New Year on Friday, December 21, 2018.  “After General Vang Pao passed away, we choose him to open our New Year” said Keith Vang.

Duab Ci Tsheej (Doua Cee Cheng) won Miss Hmong Central Valley 2019.  There were six miss Hmong competed for the title.  “I think the reason I won because during my speech, I speak from the bottom of my heart and the judges see that” said Duab Ci Tsheej.

Ntxhais Kab Ntsab from Sacramento, CA won the dancing competition.  There were 7 Hmong dancing groups competed in the dancing division.

Merced Hmong New Year is the last Hmong New Year prior to the big Hmong New Year in Fresno, CA.
