SUAB HMONG NEWS (03/02/2018) — Many videos surfacing the Social Media “Facebook” from Vietnam showing a group of young Hmong men forcing Hmong girls to be their wives. These video seems to be taking during the 2018 Hmong-Vietnam New Year Celebration which held on mid-February 2018.

Suab Hmong News contacted many sources in Vietnam and confirmed that videos surfaced on this particular incident are true and such incidents happened during the Hmong-Vietnam New Year Celebration 2018. Most of the cases happened in the surrounding Sa Pa in Lau Cai province in Vietnam. An estimated 30,000 Hmong live in Sa Pa. Total of 9 different ethnics minority groups live in Sa Pa and Hmong people composing the majority of about 52%.
Sources also mentioned that Vietnam leaders are looking into the incident closely and will have plan to prevent such incident to happen again in the future.
Richard Wanglue Vang, Executive Producer for Suab Hmong News, said forcing a girl to be a wife in the Hmong community is legal in the Hmong system but that is in the past. “We live in the 21st Century and we need to adapt to mainstream society. To change this mind set, Hmong girls must united and go against this idea and to call for the government of the country they live in to put a law to prevent it” Said Richard Wanglue Vang.
