Congressman Ron Kind presents a recognition to Boua Chor Xiong, The first Hmong Firefighter in the United States

SUAB HMONG NEWS (03/08/2017) – Boua Chor Xiong is the first Hmong Firefighter in the United States.  He worked at Eau Claire Fire Department for 27 years and recently retired.  He received a recognition from Congressman Ron Kind on March 5, 2017 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Xiong said he did not know the important of being a firefighter but after working at Eau Claire Fire Department, he realized that fire is very danger and it is very important to be a part of the fire department to rescue and help people when fire occurred.
“I just retired about a month now and I don’t know what I will be doing.  I will wait to see if there some works or business that I can do or maybe volunteer my time to help the communities” said Boua Chor Xiong.
Congressman Ron Kind said he is very proud of Boua Chor Xiong for his commitment to serve the greater Eau Claire community areas.
“I think the Hmong should be proud of their history and the culture and how well they be able to come integrated here in the United States in vary communities where they decided to locate and raised their families” said Congressman Ron Kind.
Al Bertrang, Eau Claire Fire Chief, said Boua Chor Xiong was a very good firefighter and everyone learned many things from him.
