In Memory of Ia Yang (Niam Txoov Foom Tsab)

Ia Yang passed away on April 30, 2017. A funeral service will be held for from May 19 to 21, 2017 at United Funeral Home, 1146 B Street, Fresno, Ca 93706

Ia Yang was born on June 15, 1940 in the village of  Ban Phuv Mees (Tiaj Suab), Luanprabang Province, Laos. She was the 8th child of nine children born to Tshuas Phiab Yaj and Xia Thoj. Most of her siblings were left behind and deceased in Thailand and Laos except her sister, Ma who migrated to France and passed away in Fresno in 2004 and brother, Nkaj Neeb Yaj who came to Fresno, CA and passed away in 2016.

Ia moved to Ban Puam Las and married Chong Fong Chang at the age of 18 years old. The couple had 13 children, 3 sons (2 deceased), 8 daughters, and 2 step daughters.  In 1967, her family arrived in Ban Phuv Nyawn, Veintiane Province in seeking for better irrigation and farming land. When Laos fell to the communist in 1975, Ia and her family were constantly on the move to ensure their safety; they relocated to Ban Na Yao, Vientiane Province and then escaped to Ban Vinai Refugee Camp, Thailand in 1979.  In 1989, thousands of Hmong refugees including Ia’s family had been enforced to relocate to Chiangkham Refugee camp in northern of Thailand.  From the consequences that refugees in Ban Vinai were granted temporary asylum in Thailand and all the refugee camps were expected to be completely closed in 1993.  Finally, Ia and her family chose the resettlement and they arrived in Fresno, California in October 1993 to start a new life.

Ia was the most loving and caring housewife. No words can describe how special she was as a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her unconditional love and support shines through her children and grandchildren as she was the main caretaker for each and all of them. She loved to go fishing with her only son, Yang, who was recently deceased in December of 2016. Sadly due to Ia’s long health complications, she passed away on April 30, 2017.

She was survived by her husband, Chong Fong Chang,  her daughter in-law, 10 daughters & sons in-law, and 4 grandsons & wives, along with all her grandchildren.
