4th International Conference on Hmong Studies and Wausau Hmong Conflict

March 30 and 31, 2012 was the 4th International Conference on Hmong Studies at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota.  This conference holds once every two years.  Some of the topics at the conference included: Transnational Marriage between Hmong-Americans and Hmong-Lao, What Does it Mean to be Hmong in the Twin Cities, Minnesota According to the 18 Clan Council and Associated Hmong Men and Women Leaders? Navigating Multiple Worlds:  A Qualitative Study of the Lived Experiences of Nine Hmong American Women Leaders , Hmong Youth Arts Culture: Affecting Change Through Hip-Hop.

March 31, 2012 — Wausau Hmong community rallied to call the board of driectors of Wausau Area Hmong Mutual Association (WAHMA) to hold a fair election.{sidebar id=1}

Blong Moua, Rally lead, said that the election for the new president and the Board are already past.  The board of the organization supposed to hold an election awhile back and now they change the bylaw to reflect the term of the current board to extend their term without an election.  “This is not fair”.

Lawyer for the WAHMA said that the bylaw for the organization has not been changed for a long time and it is time to change it to meet state regulation.
